Here’s the deal, folks: 237,830 healthcare patients just got a front-row seat to a data heist. Bell Ambulance, a company that’s basically the UPS of wheelchairs, got hacked like a piñata at a cybersecurity party.
According to Maine’s government (because they had nothing better to do), the breach started on February 7th, 2025. Bell Ambulance didn’t notice until February 13th. You do the math-six days of chaos, and they were still sipping coffee like it was 2003.
“On February 13, 2025, we became aware of unauthorized activity…” they wrote in a letter. Translation: “Oops, someone broke in. We’ll call a detective.”
“We engaged third-party forensic specialists,” they said. Translation: “We called the IT guy from the coffee shop down the street.”
Bell Ambulance, one of Wisconsin’s largest ambulance providers (because who needs ambulances when you’ve got 96 of them?), now admits hackers may have stolen your name, Social Security number, driver’s license, financial info, medical records, and your deepest secrets. You name it, they probably got it!
In response, they’ll “bolster security” and offer free credit monitoring. Because what says “we care” like giving you a free service you’ll never use? Enjoy your new identity crisis, folks! Who needs sleep when you can have hackers?
